Bag Closing Thread That Holds Up On The Mill Floor

We’re Narayani Thread Private Limited, running out of Chittaranjan Avenue in Kolkata since 2015. We manufacture polyester and polypropylene bag closing thread, and alongside that, we supply sealing tape, tea bag tags, shrink film and BOPP film. Most of our buyers stop juggling four vendors once they start with us.

    How We Got Here

Industrial packaging essentials on magenta backdrop copy

Sumit Deora started Narayani Thread in 2015, out of a small unit near Girish Park in central Kolkata. The idea was simple enough. Rice mills, tea packers and flour units all needed thread that wouldn’t snap mid-run, and most of them were buying it from traders who didn’t actually make anything themselves.

So we set up as a manufacturer instead of a trading house. That decision is still what separates us today. When a buyer asks for 840 denier in maroon instead of red, or wants a 1000 metre cone instead of 2000, we can actually change the run. A trader has to go back to their own supplier and wait.

Twelve years on, we’re still at the same Chittaranjan Avenue address, still family run, with Suman Deora handling a good part of the day to day alongside Sumit. We haven’t tried to become the biggest name in the category. We’ve tried to become the one mill managers call back.

Thread was where we started, but it didn’t stay that way for long. Once we were dealing directly with rice mills, they started asking if we could also supply the sealing tape for the same sacks. Then tea packers asked about tags. One thing led to the next, and within a few years we’d built out sealing tape, tea bag tags, shrink film and BOPP film alongside the thread. It wasn’t a five year plan, honestly. It was just listening to what the same buyers kept asking for.

Ask anyone in procurement what actually goes wrong with bag closing thread, and it’s rarely the price. It’s a cone that runs fine for an hour and then starts skipping stitches. Or a colour that doesn’t match what arrived last month. Or a supplier who can’t explain why either happened.

We control tension and wax lubrication on every run ourselves, cone to cone, because that consistency is the whole job. We’re not saying we’re flawless, no mill is, but when something’s off, we can trace it back to our own production floor, not a trader’s black box three vendors removed.

Packaging matters more than people expect too. Cones go out in proper cartons, not loose in a sack, because a crushed cone edge is exactly the sort of thing that causes uneven unwinding on a high-speed machine. It’s a small thing until it isn’t.

There’s a seasonal side to this too. Once Aman paddy starts coming in across Bardhaman, Nadia and Hooghly around November, our phones don’t really stop. Same with tea, once first flush picking starts in spring and the gardens need tags and envelopes moving fast. Being based in Kolkata means we’re already close to both.

And if something doesn’t work with your machine, tell us. We would rather sort a bag closing issue over a call than have you quietly switch brands and blame the wrong thing. We also just answer the phone, which sounds like a low bar, but ask around the trade and you’ll hear the same complaint about plenty of suppliers: nobody picks up once the order’s placed.

Questions We Get Asked A Lot

Polypropylene is lighter and handles moisture well, so it suits rice, fertiliser and chemical bags. Polyester carries more tensile strength and holds up better under abrasion, which is why it's the usual pick for jute and heavier 50 kg plus sacks. If you're not sure which one your bag needs, tell us the weight and material and we'll tell you straight.

Most mills run 840 denier 2-ply, that's our TP-1260, for 50 kg woven sacks. For 25 kg bags, 500 denier 2-ply, our TP-1250, is usually enough, and it costs less per cone too.

It depends on your seam length and stitch setting, but a 2000 metre cone typically closes somewhere around 2,000 to 2,500 standard 50 kg sacks at a 25mm seam. Send us your bag dimensions and we'll work out a proper number for your line.

Yes. White, red, green, blue, yellow, black and maroon are what we stock as standard in polypropylene. Anything outside that runs against a minimum quantity, since it means a dedicated production batch.

Standard articles ship from a single carton, so a small buyer isn't stuck ordering a container load. Custom denier, custom length or a custom colour does carry a production minimum. Get in touch with the specification and we'll confirm the number.

Our polyester range is made from virgin fibre, not recycled. That said, tell us your exact compliance requirement before you place the order, and we'll confirm in writing whether it's met, rather than just saying yes and hoping.

We do, across India. Being based in Kolkata mostly just means shorter transit for buyers in the East and North East, Assam, Odisha, Bihar and so on, but we ship nationally, no restriction.

Yes, and honestly, we would rather you did. First time buyers get a sample cone so you can run it on your own machine before committing to a full order. It saves both of us a headache later.

It depends on the exact product. Our polyester filament yarn falls under HSN 54023300, and our staple fibre polyester yarn under 55095300. Since September 2025, GST on man-made filament yarn and sewing thread has come down to a flat 5 percent under the GST 2.0 reform, though we would still suggest confirming the exact code with your own accountant before filing, since classification can shift slightly by product form.

We supply tags and envelopes sized for Constanta, Maisa and IMA machines. If you need the exact hologram or die cut specification confirmed for your particular line, ask us directly before ordering. We'll tell you plainly whether it's produced in house or sourced, rather than leave it vague.

This is usually a wax lubrication or tension issue from whoever made it, not something wrong with your machine. That's exactly the sort of thing we watch batch to batch. If you've had this problem with a previous supplier, tell us the article and we'll see if we can match it more consistently.

Yes. Once Aman paddy harvest picks up from November, and again lightly around the Boro harvest in spring, order volumes go up across the mills we supply. If you know you'll need stock through that window, ordering a few weeks ahead avoids a wait.

Absolutely, and we'd encourage it. We're registered as Narayani Thread Private Limited, CIN U74900WB2015PTC206271, searchable on IndiaFilings, and GST number 19AAECN9186B1Z7. We've also got an active IndiaMART profile with a multi year trading history if you'd rather check us there first.

Call us before you write it off. Most performance complaints turn out to be a machine tension setting or a mismatched denier for the bag weight, and we can usually sort that out over the phone. If it genuinely is a batch issue on our end, we'll deal with it. That's not a debate we want to have with a paying customer.

We dispatch by whichever transport the buyer prefers, whether that's a named transporter, your own vehicle picking up from Kolkata, or a courier for smaller sample orders. We don't run our own fleet, so the last mile choice stays with you.

Kept dry and out of direct sun, both hold up for years in storage. Polypropylene is a bit more sensitive to prolonged UV exposure than polyester, so if you're stockpiling ahead of season, keep it in a proper godown rather than stacked out in the open.

You can mix. Plenty of our regular buyers order two or three articles in one go, say TP-1260 plus a batch of sealing tape, and we dispatch it as one consignment rather than splitting it up.

It depends on the order size and how long we've been working together. First orders are usually advance or part advance. Once there's a track record, we can talk terms properly. That's really a phone call conversation rather than a website FAQ, but we're not rigid about it.

Yes, and plenty of our orders are exactly this size. We'd rather build a relationship from a modest first order than lose a future regular buyer over a minimum quantity that never needed to be there in the first place.
